  • Peach Season is going strong this year!

We started harvesting a few days earlier than normal, and haven’t slowed down a bit. Just a little shy of 6 weeks into the season, we have already picked over 10 varieties, and still have over 20 more varieties to go. If Mother Nature continues to do what she’s doing, we should have peaches through August. We do have several customers that want to continue to pick their own fruit since Strawberry season has ended. The good news is, you can pick your own blackberries and blueberries in our special patch just behind where the strawberries grow. Every time we fill our display up with these two sweet berries, they are sold out. We can’t keep them in the store. Don’t fret…there are several berries out there just waiting to be picked. Besides peaches, blackberries and blueberries you will also find Vidalia Onions, Tomatoes, Sweet Corn, Sweet Taters, Watermelon and Cantaloupe at our Roadside Market. So, not only do we have Georgia’s most famous fruit…we also have several other summer favorites. Oh, and peas and beans will be here soon! We love summer!

  • Strawberries

Strawberries represent Spring here in Georgia and ours arrived on April 4th.  Since then, we have had thousands of people come out and pick our sweet, juicy strawberries.  We grow the cama rosa variety here at Lane Southern Orchards….it is the best variety for this area.  We plant 85,000 plants in our 5 acre patch.  WOW!  That sounds like a lot…and it is, until we had our Spring Fling with over 5,000 people in attendance.  At the end of the day on April 23rd, we were totally out of strawberries.  That is amazing!!!  Everyone had such a great time and the weather was absolutely beautiful.  We did close the patch for a few days and have had plenty of berries since then.

We also have several school groups & daycares that come out to the farm.  We teach them how the berries make it from our Farm to their table.  They are intrigued to know the berries are planted in October and sleep until March.  They say our berries are like bears…they hibernate.  The kids have a great time and we enjoy educating them.

It’s hard to believe we are already a month into Strawberry Season and it will end soon. The patch will be open through May, so don’t miss out on a chance to create memories with your family and to enjoy one of Georgia’s other sweet treats!  We hope to see you soon!!!

  • Peach Blossom Festival, March 19th

For the last three years, we've celebrated Georgia’s sweetest season and the arrival of the peach blossoms on over 2,500 acres of peach trees.  This year will be no exception. On March 19th from 10am-5pm, we’ll have our 4th annual Peach Blossom Festival.  We have a day full of events and something for everyone.  We have over 30 vendors selling their wares and several food vendors selling their fares.  You will find unique arts and crafts including hand-made flip flops, bird houses, door hangers, preserves, beautiful jewelry and quilts, soaps and much, much more.  Our food vendors will have a wide variety of food choices that’s sure to please your palate…BBQ, Brunswick Stew, Impanadas, Philly Cheese Steak, Boiled Peanuts, Cotton Candy…all sorts of goodness gracious goodies!

Pike County’s Antique Tractor club will be bringing out their John Deere’s, Fords and Farmalls, that have all been restored to pristine condition.  They will unload their tractors in the back part of the farm and have a tractor parade into the event.  We’ll also have a 1949 Ford 9N and a hot pink tractor that DaDa built for his granddaughter to bring awareness and help raise money for juvenile diabetes.

Speaking of pink, we’ll have Alex’s Lemonade Stand here with the biggest hot pink monster truck you have ever seen!  They will also have a “Dunk The Deputy’ dunking booth and will be giving away a Yeti cooler to one lucky winner.

Our live entertainment stage begins with the Contemporary Christian Group Point of Surrender and is followed by several local up, and coming stars.  South Dodge County Elementary is bringing their Rockin’ Rhythm Band.  You have got to see these young, talented kids perform.  Kaleigh Courson and her band Dixon Road will hit the stage at 3:00 and rock your socks off until 5:00.

Our Kidz Play Zone is only $10 for unlimited access all day.   Test your skills in the 85 ft. long Boot Camp Challenge…or play in Elsa and Anna’s bouncy house…jump around in Mickey and Minnie’s Club house.  Disney’s Pixar is an incredible 29 feet tall and the Tom & Jerry slide is 39 feet tall.  We didn’t forget the sports fanatics, as we’ll have a super sports arena where you can shoot the hoops and dodge the bars.

Mid State RV Center is bringing some of their new 2016 RV’s and the Houston County Police Department will be on hand to discuss the importance of safe driving and will also demonstrate the equipment they use to target impaired drivers and speeders.

So, we are super excited and getting ready!  We hope you can join us on the Farm on Saturday, March 19th from 10am-5pm!  We hope to see you soon!

  • Here Comes 2016....

2015 was a great year here on the Farm. We had our annual Peach Blossom Festival in March; our Spring Fling in April; July 4th celebration on July 4th and our Fall Festival in October.  We also had over 300,000 visitors come here throughout the year.  We love having events and inviting everyone to leave the hustle and bustle of the city and come to the farm for rest, relaxation and fun!  We also love having visitors from all over the World come here to enjoy the farm setting and everything we have to offer.

2016 is gearing up to be just as fun and productive. So many people come to our farm to enjoy our peach cobbler, peach ice cream, have lunch, shop or just hang out on the front porch in a rocking chair.  Most don’t realize what goes on behind the scenes to make all of this possible.  Farming is our main business here at Lane Southern Orchards and we want to take this opportunity to tell you what happens behind our Roadside market each month on the Farm and also give you the dates for our 2016 festivals.

  • 107 Peach Seasons!

It seems like every year Peach Season comes to an end earlier and earlier. Yes, we will have peaches through the month of August, but when we get towards the end of July, it just seems to fly by. In recent years, we have been fortunate enough to host about 300,000 visitors a year and it’s always fun to hear where they’ve come from and where they’re going. The most common question we get all peach season long is, “When will the Faye Elberta's be ready”. This seems to be the most common variety for most people. We had a guest drive from Maryland this week just to get some. We emailed him Monday to let him know they were ready. He emailed us back at 1:45am saying he was in a Motel in Perry and would be here Wednesday morning when we opened for business. He told us he hadn’t eaten a peach in 15 years. The last peach he ate was with his Daddy and it was a Faye Elberta. He knew nothing would be better, so he refrained from indulging in this sweet, summer treat and made the drive for the nostalgic feeling. He bought 8 boxes. You know how certain songs bring back memories from days gone by? I guess peaches are the same for some. We are so fortunate to be a part of bringing back good memories for people. TGIF – Thank God I’ma Farmer!
